Hi,

I've got an Antec P160 case and a WD 2500KS SATA drive sitting inside it. My idle temps seem to be around 50-55c and when the drive is very busy it can reach 70-75c !! No idea why. What can I do about this ? I've looked at HDD coolers and 2 things :

Zalman ZM-2HC2 Silent Hard Disk Heatpipe Cooler (SY-006-ZA)

AND

Akasa Hard Disk Cooler - Blue (SY-002-AK)

Which do you think will do the job better ? there is quite a large price difference. Does anyone else know of anything better ? Do the drives still fit in the 3.5" bays with these things attached ?

Many Thanks

Are those accurate readings? Seems WD drives register a bit "hot" do you have airflow passing over the hard drives? If so I very much doubt 75 degrees. How hot is the HD case?

Can you attach a thermal probe to the HD? Even a thermometer is better than nothing (see my thread in this forum)

Well that is what motherboard monitor and a couple of other utils are reporting. Keep getting "SMART HD" temperature warnings from MBM. The case temp is around the 36c mark

I suspect those readings to be wrong! What program are you using? If not SpeedFan (here), tried it yet? Has a very useful S.M.A.R.T. tab which can also perform an in-depth online analysis...

Also, do you have an intake fan blowing air over HD/s? Very crucial/effective/etc to have one!
