Planning on purchasing a Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB 2.5 inch Solid State Drive - Black and a fresh install of an OS. I have a few quetions.

Do I need to buy a windows 8 os before I get a windows 10? Or I could just install the windows 10 directly on the SDD via usb?

What cables I would need to connect the SDD? I should change the boot order as well right? Boot the SDD first then HDD second?

Do I need to buy a windows 8 os before I get a windows 10? - What OS are you on at the moment? if your currently on 10 just use the W10 creation tool to create a USB stick and run this, W10 will activate once online as it done via hardware ID (if you upgraded from 8.1 or 7 to W10).

What cables I would need to connect the SDD? - Same cables as the HDD, power and sata cables.

I should change the boot order as well right? Boot the SDD first then HDD second?SSD should be first with OS installed. if you do a clean install of the OS make sure the only drive connected is the SSD as the windows installer can put stuff on other drives.

Samsung provide a really useful utility called Samsung Magician which allows you to clone your HDD onto your SSD. Whilst this can be very successful, if you have a HDD significantly larger than your SSD it might present some problems. In which case it'll be best to clean install onto the SSD.

Don't mess around with buying Win 8 to upgrade to Win 10, the free upgrade to Win 10 is no longer available anyway so you'll end up paying twice. Just go straight for Win 10. You can either install from a USB stick or download and burn to DVD.

If your HDD is SATA then the cables are the same. Boot order should be SSD first. Might be an idea to disconnect your HDD while doing a clean install onto SSD, get everything up and running and then re-connect the HDD.
