HDD vs SSD heat tolerance

Hard disks are too hot at 50C whereas SSD could go to 60-70C similar to any chipset CPU, ram etc. best to try and keep it cooler though.
 
While i agree that hdds are probably better off in lower temps, they can take a hell of a lot more abuse than you think. For example i've just removed 4 500gb (Hitachi) drives from a retired CCTV server that was in an unventilated rack box in an Electrical intake room where the ambient in winter was 20C+ and the summer temps today were 31C ambient, highest reported temp on the worst hdd is 78C, however they have 0 reallocated sectors, 0 pending and no errors via seatools surface scan, these hdds were going 24/7 since 2008 were stacked together in a RAID10 config, so ventilation was horrid.
