ok all the things i need for my new pc will be here shortly. due to budget issues i will be using the 80gb hdd i have in my current computer (supported by my 500gb external drive) until i can afford a nice new 500gb internal drive. how do i go about wiping my 80gb drive so that i can put it in my new setup?

do i simply put everything together, wire it all up (including the 80gb drive) and then cold boot it with the vista disc in it?

should be fine, make sure to set your cd/dvd drive higher than h/d in the boot options in bios, to ensure you boot from the vista disc, may as well reformat while you're there.

when i boot the pc up for the first time the bios should come up immediately right??
or do i set the cd drive to master and the HDD to slave before switching it on? i've never built a new pc and my current one came already set up!

When you turn on, it will POST (power on self test)

Thre will be a button to press to enter the BIOS, it will say briefly at the bottom of the screen which button.

When in the BIOS, you will need to change the Boot order to boot from dvd drive first, HDD second.

Save and exit

re-start with windows disk in drive.
