HDDs come with SATA cables?

I've bought a few Samsung F1 drives, a few Western Digital AAKS and some Seagate drives, none of them come with SATA cables.

A motherboard will usually come with as many SATA cables as there are SATA connections.

Looks like you could be right. :)

6 x Serial ATA cable
1 x 2-port Serial ATA power cable

Dumb question but what is a SATA power cable? I thought the SATA data cable did everything?

For those using ATX1.3 PSUs, eg Antec Truecontrol 550W that are otherwise sufficient to power a new system but lack the right connectors. The SATA power cable converts molex connectors to SATA power connectors.

Nah, there's a separate power cable from your PSU, that's about twice the size of the data cable.
Ah yes, of course. Like I said, dumb question. :D

Its a molex to sata power adaptor

SNAP! :D

If I buy the WD 640Gb and Samsung 1Tb drives do they come with the SATA cables or do I need to hope the mobo comes with enough? Looking at the Asus P5Q-E.

Guessing as both are OEM it is just the HDDs and no cables?

No because even though you get a full Retail warranty with OCUK the HDD's are nearly all OEM.

You do not get a fancy box with cables and screws, you get a HDD in its Antistatic Silver bag with bubblewrap added by OCUK . ;)

I recently bought a 1TB Samsung F1 (OEM) and a WD 640GB AAKS (OEM), neither had SATA cables, but also bought a 750GB Seagate 7200.11 (Retail), and it came in a nice box with SATA cable, CD, plus fixing screws....

Most hard disk sold at OcUK are OEM so never come with cables, only retail one from the purple shirted crew as they wouldn't know and would have to ask their supervisor what a SATA cable was!!
