My room is fairly warm and even though I have a P182 my hdds still run in the high 30s low 40s - I noticed SMART report states:

Your hard disk is a ST3250820AS with firmware 3.AAE.
The average temperature for this hard disk is 38C (MIN=29C MAX=48C) and yours is 43C.

And

Your hard disk is a ST3320620AS with firmware 3.AAE.
The average temperature for this hard disk is 38C (MIN=30C MAX=48C) and yours is 42C.

Does anyone else have a 7200.10 which runs fairly warm? right now my CPU is 40 degrees too.

hdd temps above are when the drives are in use of course and Vista is writing to them.

Seagate give the "Operating Temperature" for the 320GB 7200.10 of 0 to 60C, so anything up to 60C is a "normal" scenario, now in saying that I like to keep my own 320GB 7200.10s under 40C (they are normally around 35-36C). However, if the ambient room temp is high this will push the temp of your HDDs (and everything else) up as well.

If you are slightly concerned about the temps being over 40C, try improving the airflow in your PC Case, or put a fan in front of your HDDs to provide a bit of extra cooling.

Google released some results a while ago, which were quite surprising, it showed that higher operating temps (within the normal range), were NOT responsible for higher failure rates in HDDs, but just the opposite. :)

I've just been used to 30-35 for the hdds but many thanks for your reply!

The 120mm fan does not fit in the gap in the bottom front of the case on the p182 so I've ordered a 92mm Zalman with speed controller so I shall be using that :D
