HDMI 2.0 Splitter

Looking for some help.

I recently upgraded my old Panasonic Plasma with a LG G5. So going from 1080p to 40k. Now the problem is I had been splitting off the HDMI signal from our Sky box and sending HDMI over Ethernet to our bedroom TV too, so we could easily watch Sky in the bedroom (The BT Sky Q remote works from the bedroom, so didn't need IR extention). So the signal came out of our Sky Q, into splitter. One outputs to our Denon AVR (3400h) then to the TV and the other to a HDMI to ethernet converter. This has worked very well for many years.

Now the problem is that the splitter isn't 4K compatible. So had to take it out the chain as I was then only getting 1080p to the G5. Not ideal.

So looking for a plitter to split the 4K signal, albeit the TV on the other end of the HDMI to ethernet converter is only 1080p anyway. So maybe that's another issue?

None the less, all I can find is switchers rather than splitters. Would prefer not to have to swith the signal routing, but get both signals at the same time.

I have tried using the Monitor Out on the AVR, but the G5 signal drops every few seconds when trying that. I did try the zone 2 port too, but not properly I think, so I will try that. But not sure how well zone 2 would pass through in standby. The previously used splitter did work well, so would like a solution that works there.

Anyone have any ideas here?

I do have a dedicated HDMI for the PS5 to the TV, and use the eARC (maybe) port to get the sound back to the AVR. So no REAL need to upgrade the AVR just now, despite only having HDMI 2.0. And when I do, I was thinking of going pre / power amp setup then anyway. So I only need to upgrade the pre-amp side to keep up with technology going forward. But I'd rather not go down that road just now if possible.

Ezcoo do 4k 60hz and 120hz splitters (search "HDMI Splitter 4K 60Hz 1x2 1080P 120Hz HDCP HDR 18Gbps UHD D-olby Vision Atmos Scaler 4K EDID 1080P Dual Monitors HDMI 2.").

They should downscale the 4k down to 1080p for the second output; however you might have to sacrifice HDR if you're using that because they do not convert that back to SDR.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. Not sure why I looked past it before, but looks like it does what I need. I did come accross it thoughh as I remember reading the reviews, ha ha.

just get a splitter that has 2x monitor outs. Plenty about. Problem solved.

Not quite thaty easy, as explained. I have a splitter "that has 2 monitor outs" but it doesn't pass through 4k.

Unfortunatley I had to go to work for a few days, but did order the above mentioned splitter. Should be here now I'm home so will try it tomorrow.

Not sure i follow. It is as easy as that . Get a 4k matrix switch that does 2x2 minimum. This is exactly what they do.

edit : wait. your problem is actually you are trying to send a 4k signal to a 1080p tv ? Unless your 1080p tv can take a 4k signal then you will need a downscaler. No splitter will do this.

I don't think your amp can do this, can it? And even if it could you will still have to 'switch' I guess.

You could get something like SW-HDMX44DS which has a built in downscaler.

Otherwise, literally your best option is to upgrade the 1080p tv to 4k.

edit2: maybe something like this in your chain will work : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Splitter-18Gbps-D-olby-Monitors-Projector-grey-black/dp/B083JVPXDY

I suspect you would get your 4k switch working then add this into the chain on the output of that, before the extension to the bedroom (or put this device just before the bedroom tv)
