HDMI Audio

I have two machines, 1 with a 8300GS and 1 with a GTX 560ti both with HDMI

The GTX 560 works fine connected to my Samsung 40inch 3dtv through HDMI, I can get audio and video fine
The 8300GS connected to the same TV only gets a video signal, no audio, I was told this is because the 8300GS has no built in audio chip, is this correct?

Which low-mid range model either Nvidia or ATI supports the HDMI audio and video signal?

have you conected up the spdif on the 8300gs?

yes no onbord audio on older card

No I have not connected the spdif connector, i'd rather just get an updated card to be honest but not sure which is recommended for light gaming

SWTOR and Deus Ex 3 when they get released, will a GTS 450 cut the mustard, currently running

For the price the GTS 450 is a bad deal. For the same money you can get a HD 5770 which is a fair bit faster.

However, if you can find the extra money - the GTX 460 768MB card is a nice bit of kit. You will really appreciate the extra power when playing modern games at 1080p, have a look at this comparison with the HD 5770.

May I ask what make and model PSU this PC is using?

Ah, in that case I would suggest going with the 5770 I linked to above instead of the GTX 460 - since your PSU only has one PCIe power cable and running a card like a GTX 460 off it may be pushing it a bit.

Does the XFX 5770 use HDMI 1.3 or 1.4 or would this not make a difference connecting to a Samsung LE40C750 3dtv?

HDMI 1.3 I believe. If you don't plan on running 3D content - then it won't matter.

However, if you want to run 3D then you are best sticking with Nvidia. In this case the GTS 450 is probably the card to go for considering its low power use and Nvidia's superior implementation of 3D tech (3DTV Play).

You could try a GTX 460 and use a molex to PCIe 6pin Power plug adapter to provide the power to the PSU. It doesn't inspire confidence not being able to use two plugs direct from the PSU (as it suggest the PSU can't handle it) - but on further inspection the Antec is a nice unit and should handle a GTX 460 and your system without any issues.
