Hey guys so decided to run my pc>monitor connection via HDMI, but it looks aweful

The resolution is 1920x1080 which looks fab when using VGA, but with HDMI half my icons are off screen and everything looks jagged and just... aweful!

Is this normal when using HDMI? Lower resolutions actually look better than the natural res :(

This makes no sense?! VGA can't even output to 1920 so perhaps your eyes have adjusted to the horidness of it all?

In short, should be no jaggies and should look crisp.

You need to adjust the overscan on the monitor or gfx card, by the sound of it.

I think the HDMI problem is related to overscan, but not sure if you need to fix it monitor or graphics end

edit - snap ^ :p

I had the same issue for years and always assumed it was due to the gfx card.
After many years of messing about with different cards and drivers turns out it was the TV

I had the TV set to 16:9 mode but by setting its to "Just Scan" sorted the picture out ( LG TV )

Lol I just figured this out on my 32LG5700 the other day also. Still looks a bit off though compared to vga.

I also noticed on my monitor and gfx setup the image quality with hdmi and dvi to lesser extent is so much poorer to vga, and the hdmi cable would constantly intefere with the wifi card and the connection would keep going on and off,

how do u do a overscan on an ati card?

When I connected my PC to a 40" tv for the first time with hdmi it looked **** as well. Looked great with a dvi (i think-the blue one with screws) but terrible with hdmi even tho it was at 1080p. I can't remember what i did but after much messing around I got it looking how it should through the CCC options. Also, for some reason it only worked well in the first hdmi slot, although this might just be something to do with samsung televisions.

Catalyst control center > my digital flat panels > scaling options.
