HDMI cable causing BSOD....?

I built a news system over the weekend (spec below) – and all was good, Win7 install, all data transfer, Windows updates (inc SP1), restarts, applications etc…… everything was great.

I then went to finalise the build yesterday by swapping the VGA cable which connected it to the monitor to an HDMI cable. PC had been off for 24hrs at this point – so with it still off – I swapped over the cables, and went to boot up. Halfway through booting, BSOD came up.

Hmmmm…! Went through the Win 7 repair process (it said it couldn’t repair it)…… so shutdown, swapped cables back to VGA – and booted fine with no issues.

Any idea why this may be or how to fix it?
Bios setting? There doesn’t seem to be anything in display setting relating to analoge vs digital out??
Should I maybe swap to an HDMI when the PC is already on??

Cheers
Raf

what did the bsod say? I would hazard a guess to say its probably either video or audio driver related if it only happens due to using hdmi.

Certainly wouldn't do no harm to test another HDMI cable but I can't help thinking it's something to do with your GPU or Drivers. Are you running the very latest drivers from the Manufacturers website?

Took a note of the BSOD codes – but don’t have them with me at the moment.

Agree that it’s a driver issue – but I think more so that the PC didn’t automatically switch to HDMI and it caused some sort of conflict - as when the PC was last switched off - it was on VGA. Then I swap to HDMI and boot up..... and BSOD.

I’ve not installed the drivers from the website – used the CD rom – considering the mobo was only released last month, I didn’t think there would be any major driver updates….. ?

Thought I'd try to plug in the HDMI today with the PC already on - fine at the PC end... plugged into monitor (Samsung Synchmaster 2333HD) - no change - flicked to HDMI - no signal..... flicked back to VGA - and it had blue screened.... :(

Said BAD_POOL_HEADER and error 0x00000019....

I realise this relates to a driver - but there are no newer chipset drivers for this z68 board than the ones I have..... (I think)....
