HDMI cable not fitting through case into graphics card

Hey i wasn't sure what forum to put this in so if i've chosen the wrong one sorry. Basically i have a 7950 graphics card and the BenQ G2450HM 24" monitor from OC, which i know can be connected together using an HDMI cable.. but when i tried this the monitor was stating that there was no cable found. I had a look at it and it looks like where the HDMI cable goes into the 7950, the HAF X case that i'm using is jutting out a little too far from the cards connections to allow my HDMI cable all the way flush into the slot in the graphics card. I hope i explained that well enough? I took a pic to show it clearer..

As you can see, it's just not leaving enough room for the HDMI to go in properly. I thought at first that it was in far enough but i guess it can't be if the monitors not picking it up, and the HDMI cable that i have has quite thick casing which isn't going past the edge of the case. This is kinda a bummer, so i was wondering if anyone knew of any HDMI leads that have a longer end on them or a slimmer casing? Otherwise i suppose i'm just left with having to use a DVI connection instead. (i'm using a dvi to vga connector at the mo because my other dvi to dvi lead broke)

A temporary solution would to be to simply remove another pcie bracket from the back of the case? With two slots open there should be ample room for the cables head to squeeze through?

Here's some options.

1) Don't use it.

2) Jiggle the graphics card down a bit. The retention mechanism does allow for a little movement.

3) Remove some of that expansion slot dividing material. A little nibble with a snips would work well.

4) Remove some of the HDMI connector casing. May be tricky as the connector may be a metal body.

I don't think there's such a thing as a long HDMI connector, although there may some variation due to tolerance. Removing another slot cover from the case would have no effect as in this instance it's the slot divider that is getting in the way.

Is that a lappy?

Does it support dual screens, what happens if you remove the other cable then put the hdmi in?

Buy a new DVI lead. You don't want sound through your monitor speakers do you?

7950s only have one DVI port.

He states it's a 7950, and from the pic you can clearly see it's a desktop.

Another option is to buy an active mini Displayport to HDMI/DVI, but that's probably the more expensive route compared to the other suggestions. I would try see if you can jiggle it so there's enough room first. I had to do the same with my 7950...

Reminds me of a song, jiggle it just a little bit........................ oh wait :D

I'm a she lol, and righto it looks like i'll be giving it a good old jiggle at some point later. I really didn't want to cut into the case at all, i just didn't know if forcing the card around would be a good idea but sounds like it's a recommended option so that'sa what i'll try!

loosen the card inside, fit the cable then tighten the card back up,should do the trick :)

Just move it down a tad, easy enough to do, the retention mechanism allows for a little movement if required. From the photo you took, the HDMI port looks to be placed rather high on the back-plate of the card tbh, it's clearly higher than the mini displayports. A wiggle or two should do it though, you can do this easily by opening he case and loosening the screw that holds it in place ...or if it's a tool-less mechanism ...that, just shift it down a bit and tighten it back up.

This is why it's so important to make sure the motherboard is placed square on the case. It's all too easy to have a small alignment which gets progressively worse. I've had this a couple of times and it normally manifests itself when you use the expansion cards and they just don't sit right.

I know it's always an exciting time installing a new board but a little care an attention pays dividends. Nobody wants to dismantle the case to correctly align the board so I think the suggestions above are all good ones. It's really unlikely there is an issue with the case or the graphics card.

Let us know how you get on.

Hmm well i managed to get it in, the lead casing had a little ring that i could take off to get it in further. But then i had another problem. When i put the lead in, my Catalyst centre came up with a box about confirming the new connection found, so i thought it had worked, but then i took out the other lead i'd been using so far and the monitor said no cable connected.. so i don't know what's going on there. I know the HDMI cable works because it was taken from the xbox
