How does this work exactly?

Is it all to do with the HDMI cable I have? I used to have a Rasberry pi with XBMC but I recenlty got a HTPC but my TV remote no longer works with it even with CEC enabled.

I have changed HDMI cables as my other one broke. Am I right assuming its all to do with the cable?

I think all cable should support it it will be up to the TV and AV equipment to use it, I found myself wondering if standard gpus work with HDMI-CEC the other day but when I searched I didnt find anything.
I would say its your gpu at a guess thats not passing the CEC information across.
edit:what GPU is in your htpc
