Has anyone else tried using a HDMI > DVi cable with their PS3. Just got one today and for the life of me cant get it to work. I had initially intended to use it via the DVi socket on my TV but i wasnt a 100% that it would accept a digital signal. So sure enough it didnt work, so i tried via DVi on my Belinea 102035W which should accept the signal fine, again no go. So at this point i've no idea whether its both my screens that wont accept the signal, a fault with the cable or a setting on the PS3. Anyone any ideas ?

my guess is the sceens don't have HDCP. It's annoying, I've got a 22" TFT here that doesn't have HDCP so I'm playing my PS3 through a 15"ish TV :(

Looks like its a bit hit and miss. I suspect those of you that have mentioned HDCP are probably correct.

I'm using a HDMI to DVI cable with my Dell 2407fpw and it works, but then it should do.
I'll try it with a 2405fpw later if you want.

It won't work with a 2405 as that iteration doesn't have HDCP.

just got a cable about an hour ago
good thing i've not got it out the box yet
anyone know if it will work on a viewsonic vp171b 17""

won't work on your vp171b unfortunately - I've got the silver version of that sitting here too. Wish it didn't need HDCP.

you'd get the sound out with the optical.

Those of you using an HDMI > DVI cable, what are you doing about audio? Are you using the optical out from the PS3?

I havent been able to try this, but you can leave both the AV and HDMI cables plugged it, and you can select the Video and Audio source seperately, so you "May" be able to use the left and right audio out for sound.

Component will work.

100%? I have a ps3 that I'm not even going to open if it won't work, it was all very straightforward with the 360.

I take it the AV cable that comes in the box isn't a component? Or is it component with a scart adapter in there?

It's composite with a scart adaptor. You will need to buy a component cable.

It will work 100% though, component doesn't use hdcp. However you won't get 1080p through component with the ps3 because sony dont know how to make consoles properly.
