HDMI > DVi Cable on PS3

is there any way of getting PS3 -> VGA? or non-HDCP DVI?

Like PS3 component cable -> fem-fem component -> component to VGA ???

or is that gonna cost as much as a new monitor anyway? or just look rubbish?

Component hd to vga boxes cost about £30. You can get hdmi to vga/dvi hdcp removers but they cost over £200. :p

It's composite with a scart adaptor. You will need to buy a component cable.

It will work 100% though, component doesn't use hdcp. However you won't get 1080p through component with the ps3 because sony dont know how to make consoles properly.

so if its not 1080p what will I get?

pfft. at £200 I think I'd rather just spend a bit more and get a monitor with HDCP.

So you can't play games on a PS3 by using a HDMI to DVI cable on a monitor without HDCP support  ....

If this is true,,then sony messed up big time with this....As most people still have PC monitors without HDCP support...

plus sony designed the PS3 for use on HDTV's, not PC monitors
Then sony designed it to lose out on a big share of the console gaming market.....

This take a look in the xbox360 setup photo thread on here to see how many people are using there PC monitors for there game console...

Why do games consoles require HDCP over a digital connection? Are games companies scared of game movies and screenshots being put on the net :o

It wasn't sonys choice, all hdmi devices must have hdcp enabled otherwise they won't be given a key to decrypt aacs and bd+ encryption on blu-ray films.

But they couldn't made it so the games would work over the HDMI cable same as a PC video card with HDCP support does.....

Surely the rules for a video card with HDCP support would be the same as the rules sony had to go by...

dont think they want people with monitors playing there games they want people to buy lcd tvs as i said before the console makers are not aiming at the pc market

similar to the 360 where your aspect ratio is wrong unless you have a 1.1 lcd mionitor not very many do this so you are stuck with either a tiny screen with big black borders or a stretched picture not exactly ideal

No they are not allowed to do that otherwise they wouldn't be given a license. Graphics cards are different because on a pc it's handled differently.

i'n guessing i wont get any luck trying this on a Viewsonic VX2025? :(

nope - unless you have an hdcp stripper. fantastic monitors, I have one, it's just a shame it's not got HDCP. I think I'm going to have to replace it with a 2407WFP when I have the money.
