Recently purchased a Sony DAV-TZ140 with the 1 HDMI output, and also got myself a HDMI splitter, 1 input and 2 outputs.

Will this mean - that I use a HDMI from the Home Cinema into the splitter, then using the splitter I can output 2 HDMI cables into my SKY+ box and my PC and get sound that way.

Sorry for sounding dumb! :confused::p

out put is an output..

you output a video signal and plug it into a PC or Skybox it will do nothing.

the output on the home cinema is to go to a screen / projector etc.

What are you trying to do exactly?

From what I can see the DAV-TZ140 lacks any additional inputs, so it's unlikely you can get sound from sky and your PC to it - it will just be for the DVD player.

However reading a few of the reviews on Amazon it may be possible (I assume via HDMI audio return channel or analogue cables)

EDIT:
I want the sound from the home cinema system on a PC and the Sky box. HDMI transmits both audio and video does it not?

Yes HDMI does, but in effect the DAV-TZ140 is merely transmitting Video to the TV, it's not designed as a Receiver.

What tomparker95 wants to do is pretty straight forward:
(1) watch Sky with picture on the telly or monitor and sound from the surround speakers
(2) watch the PC with picture on the telly or monitor and sound from the surround speakers

What's screwing things up is:
(a) his understanding that signal are directional
(b) that "output" and "input" have directionality too and the sockets are not interchangeable
(c) his TZ-140 doesn't support the HDMI ARC feature he thinks it does

The only way to get sound in to the TZ-140 is via the stereo phono sockets (TV/Cable Audio In) on the red and the white phono connectors. That's all. Nothing else. Any sound carried by HDMI or Optical is a no-go.

It would be possible to patch together a series of boxes to (1) switch the HDMI signal and (2) extract the audio feed for connection to the analogue inputs of the TZ-140. Alternatively, if the display is a TV with HDMI inputs and an Optical out then a small "Optical to analogue audio" converter box (a DAC basically) will convert the digital stereo signal in to analogue stereo.

Neither solution is plug 'n' play though. You might need to set the Sky box and most probably the PC too to "stereo only". The TZ-140 will then use Dolby ProLogic to 'magic up' a surround effect from the stereo signal. These solutions also make the presumption that the PC graphics card carries audio.

Short of getting rid of the TZ-140 and buying a system with multiple HDMI inputs then either of the above solutions are his best shot at making something work.

Thought I was being dumb, and you've all proved me right :D Ill most probably just connect the Sky box up with stereo cables then, and use the CD player on it. Sound wise, its actually quite good for the size room it's in and the price of it.

Thanks for the help anyway guys, im a real amateur with stuff like this.
