Why is the image quality over HDMI not that great? Text for example does not good.

I have tried it on a KDL-46X3000 and the 32" Samsung I have, I am getting a KDL-40X3000 for my room soon and want the best quality from the PC.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Don't laugh but I also noticed a considerable improvement when I upgraded my graphics from 8800gt to a 4870 concerning text on my 37 inch Samsung.

If your not sitting far away from your tv then the text is going to look bad because of the huge pixels. Also is cleartype on?

I found out why - something to do with the HDMI dongles supplied being crap basically (loads of others reported same problems and improvements with a good one) something to do with colour levels..

Tried it, like I said it's a common gripe people have had and using a "proper" DVI->HDMI cable rather than the supplied HDMI dongle will fix it as the "colour levels are different".

Ordered a Linx one, will see what it's like when it comes. Basically I ordered a 40" X3000 for my room to run off my main PC and want to use HDMI and not VGA.

why would the colour levels be different, the protocol is the same, the connections are the same. the dongle has no logic inside it, it just changes one connnector type to another.

the display is pin sharp @1080p on my 40w2000 from both my 8800gtx and my vaio laptop.

I bought one of those DVI > HDMI cables and could not get sound through my t.v. even though the web site said it should. Since i bought my ATI 3870xt i have used the adaptor that came with the graphics card and it has been fine going into my Panasonic PX70 50" plasma tv.

I don't need sound through the TV, I have a 7.1 system in the room.

Anyway, I read it on the internet so it must be true...!

DVI->HDMI is cleaner for me, I hate the dongles as they make the conenction so long.

Perhaps it is the TV....

Text looks fine on my 40V4000 via DVI->HDMI from my MacBook Pro :)

And I'm sitting less than a metre away

Video looks fantastic, but text etc does not.

Anyway, will wait for the 40X3000 to arrive, cannot be bothered to carry my PC downstairs to the 46X3500.

I ended up getting Sky HD in the room also :P

DVI-HDMI improved it significantly, mainly the text. Using the dongle is not as good quality, I even tried the other dongle with the 4850s I had and other HDMI cables.

Anyway, got the 40X3000 today for my room and it looks ace!
