Morning all.
Basically my problem is that I’m trying to set up my current gaming rig (which is upstairs) to also use as a HTPC (TV located downstairs, with an hdmi cable running between the two). I have a 3-way sli motherboard, with 2x8800gtx cards in, which do not have hdmi ports. I gather that, in order to get audio via HDMI, I can add a third graphics card (cheap one with HDMI output) in the spare pci express slot, to achieve this. Can anyone confirm this works ok with a sli setup? If so, how easy is it to switch back and forth between the two different outputs - i.e. the 8800gtx cards for gaming, and the third one for downstairs? I'm also guessing that it would have to be an NVIDIA card that I add to the rig?
I realise that there are converters that can take a DVI signal and an optical signal and merge these to make HDMI with audio, but these are around £50; and given I’ll be looking to build a dedicated HTPC in the near future, I may as well spend the money on a new GFX card.
Thanks for any help,
Tony.
