Hi guys,

This may be a really silly question :)

What it is im wondering if i connect a HDMI cable to my computer will it transmit the sound as well? Like it does on a Playstation or Blu Ray ETC.

Basicly i want to connect my PC to my TV at home i was wondering if i connect the HDMI if i will get video/sound or just Video, Then i will need to use the headphone jack again.

I think graphics cards have sent sound for quite some time now. You'll need to select the sound device from the control panel applet to instruct your PC to output sound to your TV.

Mine comes up as AMD HDMI Output on my HD6950. It's really quite useful.

So basically yes it will send sound too, provided you aren't using a really old card anyway.

Do be aware that running dual monitors will cause your graphics card to burn around 40W more, even when the TV is switched off or on another channel. It's a complete waste in my opinion so what I do is disable the TV output using an Ultramon script when I'm not using it. It would only be around £30 per year extra (15hrs/day) but still waste is waste.

This is going to sound like a really odd question again i think.

Im looking at getting a new computer setup, a Sandybridge mobo with Intel 2500k CPU, If my Graphics card only has DVI out but the motherboard has an HDMI out, would the HDMI socket use my graphics card signal OR only the on board graphics.

Basicly will the HDMI on the mobo only display the onboard graphics card or will it pipe out my PCI-e graphics.

Thanks in advance

First off, ivybridge should be released this month. Secondly if you use a Z series mobo you get software called lucid virtu. You can use the HDMI on the mobo and the computer will cleverly swtich between the IGP and the dedicated GPU as needed.
