Currently I have two HDMI in on my TV which takes a feed from my PS3 (optical audio) and from my HTPC (coax audio)

Now I want to change my HTPC to something a bit smaller and get a separate Freesat box which means I am short one HDMI port.

So looking at getting a HDMI splitter to use the Freesat box with the PS3, I have a spare optical port so can pipe the audio from the Freesat box that way, but what is a good splitter?

Ideally would prefer an automatic one so do not need to get off my ass, but likewise if downloading a large update/game for the PS3 I might want to watch TV while it is doing this so maybe one with a remote on it?

Suggestions gratefully welcomed, and yes I know a new AV amp would make easier but I feel this is probably a cheaper option.

I've had a couple of the cheap ones from the rainforest.

Just search for "5 port HDMI switch" and don't spend over £15. You'll always get people with bad experiance with them but they always seem to be easily returned.

Even the cheap ones come with IR receivers so you don't have to get off your backside even if it doesn't automatically switch (which obviously it couldn't do if you have your PS3 downloading in the background while you try to watch some Freesat)

Only thing I'd recommend is that for "wife approval" you go for a switch that can take ALL your devices. So plug in all your devices into one HDMI port on your tele. That way all your switching is done with one button press.

It becomes a bit confusing for people if you have to say "To use the Freesat use HDMI1 and to use the PS3 use HDMI2 and then press Input1 for the switch".

Easier just to say "change the switch to input 1, 2, 3 or 4."

Cheers for that will take a look.

No "wife approval" to worry about it :)

In the long run will replace my AVR-1905 with a newer model at some point that has HDMI in

The 5 port switch is quite nice but the range on the remote or receiver isn't too good. Might need to see about getting a new coin battery. Though, it cannot be that as it's working well fairly close to the receiver.

Crap transmitter power from the IR LED in the handset. I have some LED colour change strip lights. The supplied remote is crap. I programmed the codes in to my Nevo. Now I can blast the receiver from 10m away.
