Is there a way to tell from looks if a cable is 1.4? Extra pin in the connector type thing.

I bought a cheapy from the forest, under the impression I got a 1.4. It was the same price as a 1.3 so I'm not that fussed and currently can't use the extra benefits. I've checked the maker's website but I can't see it listed.

Tah.

There is one physically identifiable difference in one version of the HDMI 1.4 cable spec. It's the version that supports Ethernet over HDMI. Pin 14 is connected on those cables whereas it isn't on any other 1.4 versions and not on any earlier versions either.

The only other real difference with a 1.4 cable is that it should support 4K x 2K resolutions. But if you look at the bandwidth specs then 1.3 and 1.4 are identical at 10.2 Gb.

The rest of the differences with 1.4 are to do with what comes out of- or in to- a HDMI socket. For example, ARC (Audio Return Channel) is a device feature.
