Hi guys, after reading cykeys updated tutorial I though i'd have another go, so i popped along to the clifton suspension bridge armed with my camera and tripod. Shot three shots as instructed came back and started processing them. Now I clicked the align option in Photomatix (yes i still have the trial version), but somehow it doesn't look right, on the full size version if you go to 100% view the edges of the objects look ghosted as if this hasn't worked properly.

Now considering I used a tripod, why is this happening

Have you tried doing it without the align images option? If it was done on a tripod, they shouldnt need to be aligned.

And here's one without that box ticked, still slightly blurred. Focus maybe. Which I don't understand as I had the focus set to infinity and the bridge must have been at least 20m from where i was standing.

On both of those HDR pictures, if you look at the wires on the right, there is a definite double-exposure effect. That would indicate camera shake or slight movement as the culprit (though photomatrix should be able to line them up anyway).

You can use a remote shutter release or the 10 sec timer to avoid movement of the camera when you press the button. What were you doing?

The trees and plants will always look blurred because of wind, and the sky will move between shots. I shoot in RAW then change the exposure (in rawshooter). Try +/- 1.3 exposure in photoshop with the one normal image.

Try the single RAW file batch processing, it might be slightly off the quality of 3 separate images but at least you can guarantee that everything will be aligned :)

Don't forget bridges move around too, which may be the cause of it being blurred. :)

Nooo not a single raw batch file or even a single raw in photomatix, its just never good.

Isn't that how you used to do them, Pete?

It gets a bit confusing. You can generate a HDR from 1 RAW two ways. Either by exporting it as 3 TIFF's at various exposures, or by loading the RAW directly into Photomatix. I'd advise against loading a RAW into Photomatix as it just never works well, as you can see on my guide (or not as its just been dugg) :D

It seems to have worked fine for me.

HDR 1
HDR 2

A bit of noise in the 2nd photo but that can be easily fixed.
