Lol it's harsh cos Jonathan Walters has been great for Stoke, but missing the penalty too...

so Whose been the worst player for a team in a single match... I can think of a few but there has to be more.

AC Milan's Kakha Kaladze scoring two own goals with Georgia, in a World Cup qualifier against... Italy... which finishes 2-0. That's just terrible luck.

Then before that was Stan van den Bujis who scored all of Anderlecht's 3 goals in a 3-2 defeat while he played for Germinal Ekeren.

Anyone remember a game where someone missed 3 penalties?...Martin Palermo rings a bell possibly

lol yeah... and Argentina lost 3-0 as well, but Palermo did win the game for Argentina afew days earlier vs Ecuador or Uruguay. I'd hate to have been him at the time though lol.

Firstly some bloke on my FM save missed os many and gave away so many og's in one mach I poked in anger and sacked the bloke...

Secondly Ali Diarra worst player to ever get a first team start behind Paul Wotton (football genius), both made Walters look like an enthusiastic amateur...

Wootten for utd vs Chelsea. Game is slipping away from Chelsea perspective until you Scott takes it upon himself to give away a last second penalty and then set up sturridge to score.

Even though it was the carling cup, we were winning and looked like a cert to go through. Wootton failed to score an own goal but could be credited with 2 assists.

I just think it's a bit harsh given he's a young kid on his first appearance for United, and he was out on his feet by that stage of the game.

Bit different to an experienced pro like Kaladze scoring 2 own goals.

Had Nani (an experienced player) not given the ball away on the edge of their area with 30 seconds to go then Wootton (the inexperienced defender) wouldn't of even had the ball within touching distance of himself

Once again you really do live in your own little world dont you

Not really the same as scoring an actual own goal is it?

He fails to grasp even the most basic of concepts. What ever you do dont try to explain gravity to him.

You realise Football Manager is just a computer game and isn't the same as scoring 2 own goals against Chelsea and missing a penalty in REAL life.

Really feel for JW after seeing the highlights last night.

The few minutes I saw were painful enough, the 90 odd minutes he went through must have been agony let alone what he is probably still going through

I did say that already. But then Marty Palermo missing three penalties isn't the sane as scoring two own goals either.

I guess the term own goal can be taken literally or figuratively. In the figurative sense, woottons debut was one hell of an own goal. Possibly one of the worst debuts I've ever seen.

Not really, loads of players have had awful debuts, like Henrick Larssons 1st game for Celtic, against Hibs. Wooton was just unfortunate and I dont think it comes close to being one of the worst performances by one player for a team in one game.

Well yeah...

Just happened to be thinking about it when trying to think about some of the utter trash of players we've had to put up with, Diarra come on for MLT after 35 mins and got subbed again at 65 he was so poor!

Paul Wotton I just think about with out getting a bit depressed

Wooton actually played well that day until the final few minutes were he ran out of legs and showed his inexperience. I don't think he'll make it at United but he didn't do that badly against what was a strong Chelsea side.
