I want to get a headcam for a few uses.

Predominantly skiing and biking

Has anyone got any advice and has anyoen come across any guides etc

Ideally i am thinking fairly light and small, decent but no need for excessive quality, I guess SD cards are the normal method of storage?

Any help appreciated as starting this hunt from a 100% nub basis

I've done quite a bit of research into these and I would personally go for a Drift HD. However, if I had more money I'd go for the Contour+2.

As stated GoPro 3 or if budget concerned, a GoPro 2.

The 3 looks absolutely stunning. Improvements ALL AROUND and in a much smaller package. There is a reason EVERYONE uses GoPro kit for anything mobile/extreme.

I have a contour roam and it's great, works great for skiing as it's already waterproof. Yes the gopro is the best, but it also costs the most!

It doesn't need to be waterproof for skiing, my ContourHD works fine in the snow....unless you mean water skiing.

I'm just gonna chime in with everyone and say GoPro. I've got the GoPro2 and used it climbing and sledding in Svalbard. The footage is incredible, the new one looks even better!

Got to have a very big head for one of those.

Haha, I dunno... some people get pretty into head mounting:

GoPro 3 or Contour2+ would be my suggestion. I do like the GoPro videos, but they are very good at getting the best images out of the videos they use. I took my GoPro skiing and it did take some fantastic shots, but I am very tempted by the Contour for the ease of mounting at the side of my head or the top of my helmet.

Just to give some balance to the GoPro mafia :D how about the Drift HD (or it's bigger older brother the Drift HD 170 Stealth).

It does everything a GoPro does (smaller but a different shape) with the same sort of mounts but it's main benefit over the GoPro is it's rotatable lens with a built-in screen so no matter how the camera gets mounted you can always get a straight/level picture.

I use 2 of the Stealths for motorsports and don't think I'm missing anything by not having a GoPro although in all honesty the built-in Audio Mic is terrible, get an external one!
