Off with my gf for a 5 night trip to Rome, she's been before, so I'd like to find some lesser known places that we can go to, so that she's not seeing all the same stuff!
Any tips for cultural stuff and restaurants that are off the beaten track a little?

Even tho she has probably seen them before, you cant not see the colleseum, roman forum and the vatican.

The castel near the vatican is really good (Castel Sant'Angelo), and take a walk down via condotti for all the fancy shops. Also as your gf will proabaly know watch out for all the hidden charges when going for a meal (BREADS NOT FREE!). You'd be best getting one of those AA guides, there is so much to see and that has all little places in there you may not have otherwise known about.

Where are you staying? I'm planning to go for 5 nights with the gf too in June.

I once heard someone recommend that when in Rome, you "do as the Romans do". Not quite sure what that entails though.

Keep a close eye on your valuables (went ona school trip 2 years ago: 35 kids, 8 were robbed) and don't eat/drink in the restaurants anywhere near a major tourist site (the're so expensive).

I am heavily biased, I must say. I was in Rome for 3 days and loathed it. The people were rude, the food was over-priced and better in Italian restuarants in the UK, the whole city was dirty/littered, the afore-mentioned robberies were constant and there was a constant sense of being unsafe (this from a 20 year karate veteran). On the plus side, some of the architecture and venues are amazing. Remove the people and Rome would be very nice. ;)

We're staying at Mercure Roma Corso Trieste, which seemed the best balance between price and transport links to the centre of Rome, booked it on Expedia. £280 each, flying with BA.
Minus quidco of course! :D

Cheers for the link btw!
