Headlight bulb recommendations?

Hi guys,

Just bought some new headlights and I'm going to uprate the bulbs at the same time. I've got Xenon main/normal/whatever its called beam but they are not BiXenon on the E39 so the full beam (For country lanes etc) is still halogen. Therefore I'd like to replace these bulbs with decent uprated ones.

When I had the Mondeo I went for Phillips Visionplus, but I gather things have moved on since then. Whats the absolute best in terms of light output now?

Thanks!

Osram Nightbreakers here +90% apparently according to the packaging. Seem very good compared to the crap that was the standard mondeo fit.

Hmmm Powerbulbs want £25.95 for Osram Nightbreakers on their website or £14.95 if I buy through their EBay store.

How strange.

The Nightbreakers are regularly recommended as the best. Although If they are just for full beam use you could get some high wattage bulbs, i think somone on here had 100w bulbs? They may be brighter than the best regular bulbs

I've got some 100W bulbs in my Prelude.

With the HIDs for dipped, they're pretty useless. Plus they take an age to warm up to their full brightness.

Whatever you go for, bring a nice dedicated (but of course, fused) wire to your lights straight from the battery - use the car's original loom to switch a relay. This will reduce the voltage drop to your bulbs, and give you more light. Even a 5% drop in voltage can cause up to a 20% drop in light output!!

That's the next mod for my Prelude, it should help the 100W bulbs warm up a lot quicker!

Phillips Xtreme Power or Osram Nightbreakers.

From what I hear the Nightbreakers are slightly brighter (+90% instead of 80% for the Phillips) but the Phillips are supposed to have a more even beam.

I personally have the Phillips and they have made a massive difference.

You don't need to worry about an even beam with all they are going to be used for is Full Beam usage ;)

Thread reminded me I need to get round to ordering a pair of PIAA platinum white sidelights!

Got the Philips Extreme 80% bulbs here and there alright, I was expecting a bigger step up from my old Vision Plus if I'm honest. Nightbreakers will be my next purchase... having said that my last set of Vision Plus lasted over 5 years so these ones will probably see me until my next car!

Nightbreakers. Having said that, one of mine blew after only 6 months but Osram gave me a freepost address to send it to and it was replaced with 2 brand new bulbs. Excellent service
