Headphone advice

Just to add my humble 2 cents.

I bought the ZxR recently (after much deliberation between this and the STX II) to go with my K702's (also recently purchased). I wanted it 100% for gaming (as my PC is not in a sociable room for listening to music nor watching movies etc.)

From a gaming perspective the headphones and the Soundcard have been a good purchase and I've no regrets.

I was wondering whether a SMSL SD793-II, would have enough power for the K702. I know the FiiO E10K does, which puts out 200mW @ 32 Ohm. The SMSL is 140mW @ 32 Ohm.

It's an external DAC/amp that you could connect to the SB Z via optical, so you can still make use of the sound card's processor for SBX.

Assuming it's fine for the K702, then that would be a cheap decent option without having to spend £100+ on another sound card.

smsl m3 seems more powerful but I don't trust smsl products after doing some reading not the most reliable brand and hong kong stuff can even be dangerous.

If I am buying from hong kong I'd get a Zero amp or aune x1.

Undoubtedly the K702 is better headphone for gaming, and naturally one would want the best sounding headphone that can be afforded; but the SB Z not being able to do them justice can't be ignored really.

Do you buy the better headphone, only to gimp their sound a bit by using them with the SB Z; or buy headphones that will be powered perfectly fine by the SB Z, even though they are not as good?

Tough decision.

They look like great value, but only if you live in the US it would seem. Can they be bought for reasonable money here in the UK? If they can, I can't find them. I can see someone selling them on eBay UK for £1112

£99.50 on the rain forest place but yea they do seem hard to come by at the mo

Which budget do you have anyway ? There's quite a few cans I'd choose over beyers in their price range

How about the Fostex T50RP MK3 grab em whilst they're available and cheapish and worry about the amp later as they need a good amp to drive them.

if you are worried about smsl then just buy them from the uk. Though ive not seen anything to warrant the worry.

are they easier or more difficult to drive than the hd650s? its on the limit with the latter but fine as long as the source material is loud enough. It#s a bit lacking in headroom for quieter stuff.

HD 650s like a good voltage swing while the AKG K702s need lots of current but on the whole, the AKGs are harder to drive.
