Ok my girlfriend is getting me a new set of headphones for Xmas as a present. I game and use Teamspeak so I would need a headphones with Mic attached. Budget would be in the range of 80 or so.

can you fella's give me your recommendations on what would be ideal to use?
Are wireless up to scratch or should I stick to wired?

My 7 year old daughter would be using them as normal headphones to listen to her cartoons/tv shows on the Pc but primarily they are for me and my gaming so defo need a mic

Any help would be appreciated guys....I have a dedicated sound card that currently feeds 5.1 setup so don't know if that makes any difference.

Cheers in advance ;)

Some X-Fis are better with headphones than others. Xtreme Audio is a cut down version. Most of the others do better. They simulate surround sound over stereo headphones (the Xtreme Audio does this too but it's not very good).

Xtreme Music, Xtreme Gamer, Tinanium and various others all do the simulated surround. My main piece of advice is avoid headsets marketed as 5.1. These X-Fis will do a surround equivalent over headphones just as well as them - probably better in fact.

It might be better to consider getting headphones intended for music / hi-fi use. They generally give better sound quality and value for money than gaming headsets. Would you consider a desktop or clip-on mic at all?

If a mic attatched is a must, maybe those Razer Carcharias you posted about a while back Uriel, would be a decent bridge between headset and decent phones.

I think a good pair of phones will always sound better than any headset as Uriel pointed out though, plus a clip on mic or desk one.

Why pay £110 when the Razer is a smidge over £60. Reviewer on OCUK thought the Razer's were as good as the Senn HD555, and the mic is good too. The PC350 is over priced imo.

@ URIEL - I need a proper set of headphones with a mic as I play COD matches online with my clan and need to have a mic to use the Teamspeak application.

Would you recommend a Razer route to go down???

Appreciate you fella's input too ;)

They are a good price here at OCUK atm, about £10 cheaper than a lot of other places. If you must have the mic connected to the phones, I would say they are best bet given their decent price.

Tbh, many clip on mic's and desk ones suffer from noise pick up. The mic on the Razer's are very good at cancelling out unwanted noise. If someone rates them as good as their Sennheiser HD555 phones, then I see no reason not to get the Razer's.

Headsets most of the time are fine for gaming, but when it comes to music a good pair of phones will always win. But if someone who owns a pair of Senn HD555 says the Razer's are as good as, can't really argue with that. Also to go for a separate mic that is good for noise cancellation one would have to pay £20 maybe. The Senn HD555's are £70 on their own.
