Unfortunately I'm now living in Uni halls and so I want some good headphones as I'm limited on the volume levels with my HiFi. I would ideally like some over ear sort of can type but they don't have to be. I'm looking to spend around £100 so could someone recommend some good ones?

Thanks
Boscoe

I used to work at Cambridge Audio and a couple of the engineers had some of these, I had a listen but was a bit unimpressed...

Thanks for the recommendations I read the Grado SR80i are good although a little out of my price range.

The engineers like them because they are flat, they reproduce accurately what the source materials are.

The grado are "coloured", they are an acquired taste and also open.

It really depends what you are after.

I have a very large knowledge of the engineering of audio equipment - I designed it at CA before I went to Uni! I have never bout any audio gear just made it and so I know nothing of the retail world! I will have a walk down Tottenham Court road and try some out.

I know you do, so i am a little surprise you started this thread tbh!

In all honesty apart from the Audese LCDs you could hit me in the face with a grands worth of headphones and I wouldn't know the difference!

Are you the guy who I told actives are better and you ran in the other direction?

Yes, because you made it sound like a white van sale!

takstar hi 2050 £30

poor mans beyerdynamic DT's but apparently very good for the money and pretty decent yet to find a bad review on head fi for these

Superlux range £20-£35

many to choose from with different sound signatures a well thought of budget headphone

Creative aurvana live £50

Fischer Audio FA-004 £90

beyond that depends on deals etc and prices as you might be able to nab some beyers at not much more than £100 but the question is are they just £100+ takstar hi 2050's with a beyer dynamic badge ? at £27-99 not to be overlooked.

id say bump the budget if poss, still d look into IEM's that you can use in your room and outside, in library etc etc.

in budget something like the Etymotic HF3, they a bit bass light but isolate super well which is handy for blocking out noisy neighbours and for using in quiet places.
