Heads Up : PSN down until 3am Thurs.

You cant backup protected saves with a USB stick - for some people thats worth its weight in gold, especially as they can be restored to another PS3 which is something you couldnt do without having 2 PS3s in the same room and dumping the whole PS3 image from one to the other.

If its via the Game Saves XMB then I doubt it - when I backup manually to USB you have to do it individually and I doubt 3.6 makes it any easier.

Even though Ive got the update I still not looked at it, prime reason why such a manual backup process to me feels a (broken) token effort by Sony...

thats a shame, could have been implemented a whole lot better. the chances of me remembering (or bothering) to back up every save game individually is pretty slim.

a better idea would have been an automatic (all) saves backup on a schedule would have been better IMO

I just hope Sony start putting in some dev guidelines regards save sizes - for the life of me I dont why my Joe Danger save is 8MBs while GT5 is only 700kBs. Also be nice if they limit the number of files a game can create...

I dno how they think someone could breach the 1000 game save limit as there arent that many saves that are under 150kBs...

Already nearly used a third of the space with 20 unique games - considering Ive got at least triple that amount of games (including PSN) I think Ill be running out sooner rather than later :p. Also none of those games dumped create multiple progress saves, but some do have multiple saves for certain things (like FIFA 11 with its 2)...

TBH Ill probably just end up using it to supplement my existing fortnight USB backup and put my protected saves only up there aswell as game saves I give a damn about (like GT5)

EDIT: Like a lot of things Sony has done this generation, its a nice idea but poorly implemented...

Seems weird that they can enable protected saves to go to the cloud, but not go from PS3 to PS3 (using the migration tool they have) or, for that matter, to USB.

Still think protected game saves is a bit of a sham tbh. Devs should be told not to protect them or release patches to unlock them. Last 2 times My PS3 got replaced I lost all the protected ones and sold those games :(

I thought you could move protected saves via the migration tool? The only problem with that is that its no help when your existing PS3 dies :/

What I dont get is why some games get protected - Ive just noticed that Tales of Monkey Island is a protected save - why go to all that bother for a SP game - is stopping people unlocking Trophies that important (another reason why I dont get Trophies/Achievements)? I can at least fathom it for a mainly MP game with unlocks and the like, though in those situations why doesnt the dev/platform hold the save centrally to prevent any chance of game save hacking...
