Heads Up Sky+

It says 'failed' pretty much every time when recording programs back to back on the same channel. One will work, next will be failed, next will work etc.

Only had it once or twice, didn't think anything of it, but now I know the cause!

Next time it happens, press the i button on the failed programme and it will give you a reason why its failed, give you a genral idea why it has.

Sometimes its fine, The first programs end will be the same as the second programs beginning...but next time it happens I'll press i. Never thought to do that, as the only visible option is delete :p

When it does this with me it doesn't say failed or anything, when you press select on an affecting programme in the planner view, it opens up its individual view for want of a better word, showing the programme description etc, if you press select to play nothing will happen. If you put a number in to start playback say 10 minutes in, nothing will happen. Do a planner rebuild and try again, same again, nothing will make the affected programme play and it has to be deleted. One time I noticed when I set my sky+ to recorded a longe sequence of back to back programmes on Eurosport, I found the box recording the same programme twice at the same time, i.e. if you looked at the planner it was had two instances of the same programme on the same channel being recorded. Its basically been playing up like this since August time last year. Did a full reset once but the back to back programme glitch came back.

Front panel reset is worth a try,

unplug from the mains,, hold in left and right buttons plug back in, keep it held eventually the sky+ lights will go round backwards, double tap select on the box and leave it for 10-30mins.

Yep did that the other week and it still had the bug. However, reading AV forums again someone else posted about having picture breakup problems since august last year, which I have been having too, and someone mentioned if that issue could be related to DECT cordless phones being too close to the sky box. Since I moved mine away I've not been having the breakup probelms, touch wood, although it has still frozen a couple of times. Don't know if this has also solved the corrupted consequtive recordings issue however as I don't want to risk putting padding back to auto to test.

Yeah cordless telephones have can cuase breakup, mostly on music and some movie channels.

Owell, you still in warrenty?

Does the new Sky HD box have 4 tuners?

Supposedly not, altough the new sky+ will have 4 tuners.

Not sure if its going to be two boxes in one or if you can use 4 tuners to one tv yet(within the same EPG)

Will find out within the next couple of months anyway.

Like I said detials are vague at the moment, update has been cancelled untill wedensday now. Sky Anytime currently works on push on demand, i.e they put what they want in the planner.

Pull on demand is equivlant to Virgins offerings, you choose what you want to watch.

Like I said detials are vague and not sure if the update is just to put it in the boxes but not in use as yet or if it is going live this week.

great. something else to bugger up our sky+ boxes! the anytime update was a shambles.

Been told that the update is for the EPG, should be good first update since sky went digital.

Only pvr3 and HD boxes though.

The update supposidly went ahead just the boxes arn't using them yet.

Supposedly the end of Feb/March time.

The new EPG, which will only be available on new Sky+ boxes, will replace the current 4 top-level options (TV Guide, Box Office, Services and Interactive) with 10 options (TV Guide, Planner, Anytime, Box Office, Interactive, Radio, Search, Parental Control, Options and Settings). A 1/8th size mini-TV display in the top right-hand corner of the screen will show video and carry audio from channels as they are selected in the TV Guide. The TV Guide itself will show more channels per page, up from the current 10 to 12 (with mini-TV) or 24 (if mini-TV is turned off). The search and scan banner will show more programme information including when a show started and will permit synopsis information from other shows to be displayed via the 'i' button. Other changes include a better search function covering 7 days of programme data and series links being selected by default when a programme is recorded.

The enhanced guide will be introduced "at some time during 2008" and will only be available on newer Sky+ boxes and Sky HD.
