headset and sound card?

Yep, great card for £20. There are better cards, certainly, but you're going to have to pay £50-£60+ to get one. The DG is very good value for money.

Can't really recommend a headset, as I think most of the cheaper headsets offer poor sound quality, for the money paid.

Thanks for the input does anyone have a recommendation on headphones/set as really still want my surround sound via these if possible

Thanks

I keep reading and people say not to buy a 5.1 or 7.1 headset as there a gimmick and to get a good quality stereo set as they provide better sound and positioning, is this correct?

It depends who you speak to. Many people, including myself, prefer stereo headphones, and a sound card to provide surround sound effect. There are people though, that find that doesn't work for them, and prefer multi driver headsets, such as the Roccat kave's.

I have no love for multi driver headsets, but if they work for some people, then they do have some value.

I've seen many people say they've found these so called 5.1 headsets to be rubbish, and gone to stereo + Dolby Headphone/CMSS 3D, and were glad they did they did so. On the other hand, there have also been people that did the opposite, and found multi driver headsets to be better.

The problem is, as most things with sound, you can't know what you will like until you have heard it for yourself.

Both Sennheiser PC330 and Razer Carcharias, are very good headsets. Definitely some of the better headsets available.

You'll need a sound card for positional sound with the Razer's, but the Senn's also come as PC333D, which is the same headset, but comes with a USB sound device to provide the positional sound effect.

i just cant make a decision, without hearing them its really difficult to know how well the `surround` sound will be and how clear they will be.

these really are cheap do they give good positioning and quality sound?

They are absolutely excellent for both gaming and music. Use the search function within this section as there are many happy Panasonic owners here, including myself.

Remember, if you do not like them, you can always return them under DSR. :)

ive found some phillips shp2500 in a cupboard and used them with bf3 and my onboard audio which allows me to `headphone virtualisation` now ive found they give a certain amount of left and right pinpointing but i had a helicopter flying across to my left and low but i thought it was directly above me, now is this gonna be the same with all headphones or is it the fact there older?

ok tried some creative silencer headphones at brother inlaws and while the sound quality was ok the surround left me disappointed, i could hear left and right but as for front to back.....
He was using the software that comes with the headset to tune his surround etc but i wasnt impressed, he only has onboard sound as well as me, is this the cause of the problems do you think?

They won't be much good for FPS gaming. They will be better for music. They are too small really for good positional sound. You really want full size headphones for good positional sound.

I thought only the UD5 and up had Dolby Headphone, etc. There's no mention of it in the UD3 specs on the Gigabyte website.

Without that, you are only to get plain stereo, unless using a sound card, or some USB device.
