HEADSET!!!

Do you get the same noise if you plug the headset into your phone, or any other audio output, TV for eg?

If it is the headset, should be there regardless of what it's connected to. Just curious, and it would be good to rule out any problem with the PC completely.

I tried them in my phone and no sound when idle?

This is weird now?

SO what do you think is causing it? Ive even unplugged the mic and still the same thing.

The sound is kinda like when you put your ear near a shell if that makes sense? Its very quiet but its there and i dont like it.

The plot thickens. Is the Kraken USB powered at all? Razer Carcharias is also USB powered, despite using analogue for audio. Wonder if they did the same with the Kraken.

It cant be usb powered if its full analog lol?

Sure it can. I've already said that the Carcharias is made that way. You can check the specs on Razer's site. Obviously the Kraken isn't though, otherwise your reply would have been different.

Razer changed the design of the Carcharias to make it console compatible by adding USB. The older version was just analogue only, and was a good headset. The newer version which requires USB power, Razer made a mess of it, with many people getting buzzing and static with the headset.

Don't know much about those Logitech sorry.

If those G430s are anything like the 930's then they should be fantastic :)
been using a set of highly rated Panasonics but the left speaker has gone :(
Looking at going back the the logitech G930's myself if I can sell my soundcard and Antlion modmic in MM

I have give up on mid range headsets now :(

Ive went back to my budget creative set they come Friday lol.

I will save and get a £100+ pair hopefully they are much better!

Sometimes the front USB and 3.5mm jacks can be a source of unwanted static noise. If you had them plugged in using the front ports i'd suggest trying the back ports to see if it makes a difference. I get tons of static from my front 3.5mm jack but none from the rear port.

Have you thought about ditching these "gamer" headsets and getting some higher quality headphones? Make sure you have a decent soundcard (this will minimise noise and most newer ones have decent headphone amps), then get a £100-250 pair of music headphones (sennheiser/beyer/akg/etc).

I'm in a similar situation.

My Roccat Kave set are about to die (cable fraying) and the mic is almost useless.

I need something with analogue surround sound (I find the positional audio critical for gaming) and I need a decent mic.

I use a creative titanium sound card so something USB isnt really an option.

Don't really know what i should be looking for, this headset has 4 3.5mm jacks with a USB for power. The sound quality isnt amazing but its perfectly decent. The positional audio is fantastic and something I don't want to lose.

The mic is crap and this is my 2nd set of these and I dont want another But i've no idea where to look.

I'd be willing to get a seperate mic/headset though would rather not if possible.

Any solid ideas? I'd be looking for around the £100 mark ideally.

Yeah, as I have said, headphones are better.

"On a side note, £150 "gaming" headsets have very inferior quality when compared to the JVC HA-RX700, for instance." - The resident audiophile on another forum I frequent.

I took that advice, £30 for the headphones, and I definitely do not regret it!
The mic I am using is a Speedlink one, think that was like a fiver, very clear.

Look at brands like JVC, Panasonic, Sennheiser, if you're rich then Bose too. Generally you can get surprisingly high quality audio from 25-50 quid headphones, if you pick the right ones.

Don't forget to have a good soundcard though, ideally one with a headphone amp, some sets require them... and yes, as someone else here said, plug directly into the soundcard. Less interference that way!
