Hello.

As a film student, I'm currently researching ideas for a film I'm making about health & safety. It's along the lines of a spoof documentary. Although it will generally poke fun at 'nanny state' rules and regulations, it may also raise some semi-serious points :)

e.g. there's a story in the news today about Worcester city council who have cordoned off an area of pear trees, for fear of falling pears. See here.

I've been looking for some sites relating to these kinds of stories but haven't found anything as yet. If anyone knows of any such existing websites feel free to post a link!

It would be great to hear everyone's view on this and maybe share some stories and experiences of over-zealous health and safety measures, whether it be in the workplace or otherwise.

Thanks :)

I think my favourite H&S farce was back when they were celebrating the anniversary of The Battle of Trafalgar the chap who was re-enacting the role of Lord Nelson was ordered by H&S to wear a life jacket... He looked a complete twit in his beautifully accurate admirals uniform... and a big orange life jacket

Even if he fell overboard there were lifeboats everywhere... he was at more risk of shark attack than drowning.

Off topic: You know the Health and Safety Executive said on a recent news report that there should be health and safety considered, but that some people/organisations take it to the extreme. The person on the Executive said these people really should get a life.

Another example is the school trip which could not go ahead because some children might get hurt or get lost (this was mentioned on the news report).

Are there any you could point me in the direction of?

The only one I know of in recent years is 'Staplerfahrer Klaus'. A German fork-lift truck 'safety video.

The exact one I was thinking of too, absolutely brilliant.

Haha brill. Yeh it's on youtube. Couldn't find a subtitled version but it's funny enough without them. Good find :)
