Health Warnings

It is believed the 60-year-old was smoking on a fire escape at Doncaster Royal Infirmary on Monday.

He was taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield with serious burns but later died.

That worries me the most!

Quite frankly, it serves him right. He must have been told the gel was flammable yet chose to smoke. Anyway, cigarettes have no place in a hospital.

No sympathy from me.

Reminds me of a story about a guy near here.

Was filling up his car with petrol but the cut off didn't work so his arm ended up getting soaked in petrol. After paying and getting in his car he got a phone call from his wife advising him that the dog was ill. Being stressed out he lit a cigarette to calm his nerves - resulting spark set his arm on fire. He would down the window to try and put the flames out in the wind. Unfortunately he was spotted by the police and was charged for being in possession of a fire arm...

I just would have thought they'd do all they could before moving him but if they also have a specialist dept it makes a lot more sense.

At the end I get the impression that there was nothing that they could do. If somebody's going to die with serious burns then generally it's due to a combination of hypoxia (lack of o2) and cellular destruction.

Also if he's been on fire chances are he may have inhaled some of it. In this case it would be like breathing fire into your lungs, there's very little place for this energy to go apart from to the surrounding tissues which pretty much kills it.
