Heart attack, who to inform?

On the road....
Well, it looks like my trucking days could well be over!

I had a heart attack yesterday, and have been languishing in hospital waiting transfer to a cardiac unit since. On the plus side, I'm still here so clearly it could have been worse!!!

My employers have told me I'll be off work for at least 12weeks, and on return, I won't be driving trucks any more due to insurance risk. :/

Whilst I know I legally have to inform DVLA because of my HGV licence - which I know will be suspended - I'm not entirely sure if I have to do the same with my car and my own insurance...

If anybody could point me in the right direction, I'll be thankful.

Sorry to hear about the attack m8,worth a phone call just to double check with the dvla and insurance company.

Terrible news chap. :(

Still, awesome that your still alive and posting. Can't offer advise on what you should do, just rather that I hope you have a speedy recovery. :)

I don't think you need to tell your insurance company, but of course don't be driving until the Doctors tell you that you are safe to do so.

Best of luck!

I've had a couple of heart attacks now and generally the DVLA, aren't interested one way or the other. Once your doc says you are fit to drive (typically 6 weeks after uncomplicated MI, he will know the criteria)
I rang them and they are not interested, unless its likely to effect you in the future. Things like epilepsy, diabetes are notifiable I think.

You must tell your insurer, though it will not effect your premium. They asked me for a list of all my medication.

Iirc I'm sure there is a medical associated with getting your HGV back. Its a bit like a stress test, that puts your heart through its paces.

Anyway, good luck with it.

I worked with a guy who had several heart attacks operations and still drove a car daily.

My stepfather has had stints put in his heart arteries and drives 60 odd miles a day commuting. I don't think it effected his insurance at all really and certainly not his licence.

So glad you are on the mend, I think you will be dine car wise.

Sorry to hear it fella, all the best with the recovery. My old (now retired) gaffer at work had two heart attacks within 3 months (literally weeks after he retired after 28 years service in the job) but has now fully recovered after surgery and is back to normal now, almost. In fact his surgeon said that because of the work carried out with stents etc he is in better condition now than he was prior to the cardiac episodes.

No idea on advice regarding your original question but get well soon. :)
