Heart Rate Monitors

Never understood why cycling is a fun sport. Why do you like cycling?

I'm doing it for weight loss and to get fit but I find it passes the time really quickly. (not going to stop when I'm fit though already got money squirrelled away for another bike next summer and my current one is not even 3 months old yet)

My rides time wise always feel half as long as they actually are so I must be enjoying it

I've tried walking/jogging/running in the past but could never motivate my self until I got a bike

of course they are only as accurate as the data you give them for your profile

you can find your max heart rate your self
http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/general/heart-rate-training-find-your-maximum-heart-rate/181.html

you are supposed to measure you resting heartbeat as soon as you wake up so I guess you would have to sleep with the strap on or something..

anyway supposed to be as accurate as you can get without lab tests

anyway I don't think I would bother getting one for pingpong tbh most people buy garmins etc for all the other data they log

Of course You can measure your max HR yourself, but - no offence intended - it's a pretty horrible test to do and given the OP is looking for using it for ping pong, they might not be too keen on doing a ramp/interval test running/cycling

I have a Garmin Forerunner 405 and have used it for running, cycling, gym workouts and circuit classes.

I'd say that the strap is pretty secure and non slip.
