Hi to you all....

Hoping someone out there can give me some sound advice on my next upgrade. Here's my current setup:

Pentium D 945@ 4.0Ghz
Thrmaltake Big Typhoon
Asus P5WD2 - Zalman NB Cooler, Pencil Mod
2x1GB Corsair VS DDR2 533@ DDR2 800
HIS X1900GT rev.1
Connect3D X1900GT rev.1
2x Maxtor 80GB SATA 2 HD in RAID 0
1x Maxtor 160GB SATA 1 HD as Backup
CD-RW
CD-ROM
Lian Li PC-G70
Hiper 580 Watt Type-M PSU & 350 Watt OEM PSU

Peripherals:
19" Acer Widescreen Monitor (1440x900)
Bog standard Keyboard & Mouse, standard headset.

I was hoping to polish this spec off with the new DFI Intel motherboard and some custom W/C, the new board giving me Conroe capability and (was hoping) 16x PCI-Ex bandwidth on both my video cards. The PCI-Ex bandwidth isn't happening now, making it a board for overclocking conroe and not a lot else for me personally.

Oh Budget: About £800

So what do I do with this setup ? I'm already treating the wife and my eldest to new PC setups ready for Vista and also to expand their capabilities.

Let your mind suggest away ! :)

i say keep the lot and just upgrade cpu, processor, psu, and abit more memory has you can never have enough :D

heres what i think im sure other people can fine tune it

btw just rest you want to wc

my spec leaves about £200 for custom wc :D

why does he need a 1000w psu?

why not Geil Ram instead of Corsair...

i said someone can fine tune it it was just a quick knock up i made

1000watt is simply for expansion tbh has he wants watercooling and a r600 according to his sig and whatever else so i was speccing a 1000watt so it can last him plenty of years

Thanks for the feedback - interesting suggestions.

I was tempted by the Enermax Galaxy 1KW PSU.

Trying to reason out the choice of motherboard I think here - Its a case of going with 975x, 680i or RD600 at the end of the day.

Going for 680i means Im hoping for SLI ...
Going for RD600 means jumping on the Crossfire bandwagon...
975x means going for Single card solution for Geforce, or Crossfire if I want it.

I'm thinking of just going for the biggest single card solution I can and there for going for the best 975x board I can get.

What do people think to the Bad Axe 2 ? Or is their a better 975x board ?

975 - ASUS P5W DH
965 - ASUS P5B Deluxe / Gigabyte DQ6
680i - BFG / EVGA / ASUS Striker Extreme
RD600 - is it even out yet??

1KW is overkill unless u are planning to go quad core + watercool your 8800 SLi setup in the future.

With the money I'd go for a single 8800 + P5W + E6600 and use your current cooler and RAM.

I think I've got my mind set on a i975 chipset based board, seems the most comfortable option to me.

I'd like to stay away from the Asus boards, thanks to their notorious Vdroop issues which hampered my efforts with the P5WD2 resulting in having to make a pencil mod to keep stability.

Therefore options are Abit, DFI Infinity or the Intel boards....
