My GPU is idling about 70 and I'm guessing thats way too hot :/

What should it be at/whats safe? Any way of cooling without changing case?

Grab RivaTuner and set up a fan profile to make it spin faster. :)

definitely give rivatuner a go. it should tell you how fast your fan is spinning - i got a 3850 a few weeks back and had load temps at 90c - and the fan was spinning at 47%. i think it should be spinning a little faster than that at those temps. :p

Will it do it any harm having fan on quite high all time?

Was at 36% now I see....lol

Anyone recommend a reasonable %?

If you plan on gaming for long i would put it to around 50% and see what load temps are.If its to loud or 50% is not needed to keep it cool then put it down alittle.I got my x2's on %45 and under load/ gaming for hours i get around 71c.

Go with the highest % your ears will let you, while keeping temps at a level you're comfortable with.

IDK what the G92 GTS fan is like, but my GTX i could bear on 100%.

My 8800GTS idles at 70/71 C, always has. I just left it as is, cos it's at stock, and I just assumed it was normal. I never have any problems with it when playing games either.

Only problem is, if you set a fixed temperature, the auto control won't kick in to increase the fan speed (if needed) under load...

I don't understand, shouldn't these fans be configured properley by the manufactures beforehand?

they obviously assume, that everyone has air conditioning and sets it to keep their rooms at 16degrees or below, then 30% would be plenty. that 10 degree diff keeps cards much cooler than at 26 which is my room temp now!, and i dont like it!

Hello peeps. Not going to start a new thread a this one is on the same topic. Just wondering, brought a 9800 GTX and installed if fine (had to cut my case) but the idle temp is 61°C. Does't the fan get damaged if it constantly runs at 100%? It's not really that loud at them speeds.
Cheers

No the fan wont get damaged. All fans will be designed to run at 100% 24/7 for the stated MTBF. You're not going to have any problems, and it you did - it's a simple RMA.

If you were to try and run the fan at 120% (impossible without mods), that's the only time you might see problems (i.e overclocking the fan :D)
