Incorporated Engineer and Engineering Technican are both Engineering Council approved titles with a proscribed route to achievement. Chartered Engineer is a title too with a proscribed route. But engineer is much misused title in this country that ill reflects the Engineering Council's titles. It's a shame because Technician is a title of respect in countries like Germany. I work with many technicians and rely on their expertise and knowledge constantly but our skills are different. I could not pass myself off as a technician and by and large they can't pass themselves off as engineers.
