I currently have a Opteron 170 with no IHS and watercooling. The water system is overdue a replacement and I am no longer wanting to go the water route so need a air cooler. It needs to be compatible with socket 939 and 775 and good at cooling. Currently liking the TRUE and Scythe Ninja-Cu. Will these be compatible without modification?

Thanks, Trif.

For the TRUE, you would need the 939 bolt through kit. This also goes for other Thermalright products, like the Ultima 90 etc. The original Thermaltake Big Typhoon has a bolt through mechanism that is compatible with naked 939 CPUs.

I currently have a TRUE on my CPU, which is naked. I have also had the Big Typhoon on a naked 3000+ Venice, so weight is not an issue. I used 3 layers of duct tape either side of the CPU in both cases as a little shim.

Will most likely do this for a Easter project. Thanks. :)

How likely is a 2 1/2 year Thermaltake water cooling kit likely to fail? lol. :(

I bit the bullet and ordered it today. Had to get the bolt through kit from a competitor with worse postage prices! (To make myself feel better also ordered a fanless northbridge cooler :) ).

I have found a sticky foam strip that I think is from a cold cathode kit (to stick cathodes down) would this be suitable having a bit of this in each corner as the shim?
