Heatsink cooling problem

I recently bought a Gigabyte G-Power cooler for my 2800 XP as recommended on Overclockers. For the first few days motherboard monitor was reading 35, 34, 29 which I was happy with, but recently it has gone to 40, 40, 33 - both readings are when the fan was at it's lowest in idle.

Any ideas on what's wrong - should I add new paste perhaps?

It could just be that I guess - the sunshine has been out a lot in Glasgow recently, shining through my window and onto my PC, which is nice. :p

Actually, I did a test this morning when I put the PC on. I turned the fan up full and left on idle for 10 minutes. Got something like 32, 34, 25 on motherboard monitor which is more like it. Perhaps the extra heat from the sun outside is the reason.

Yeah, with air cooling the lowest temps you can get is basically ambient temperature... so I can imagine your PC getting warmer as the current bun starts shining.

I had to stick a desk fan in front of mine last summer my HDDs got to 65C!
