Heatsink for an athlon XP

I used my Gigabyte G-Power Pro on my xp3200 and at idle it sat at 34c and hit 41'c under load.
Also the cooler is universal as you get a load of fitting kits so when you change socket types you can keep the cooler. I've now got it on my 3700 and it keeps it at 28'c at idle and 34'c under heavy load and thats with a mild overclock to 2.5gig.

OK. It seems certain I will get that now. Is it good with Actic Silver 5 or does it works better with the stuff that comes with it (assuming it does come with it's own PC lube)

;)

I used the thermal paste that came with it and it worked fine. The difference between pastes is minimal tbh might get half a degree knocked off . Just save the £5 or so for a few pints ;)

The Thermalright SP-97 is the BEST socket A heatsink available. Don't have one myself though - I have an Akasa AK-827BL, which I think is very decent for the price.

A good selling point for the G-power though, is the fact that it's universal so when you upgrade you can keep it and just change the bracket and save yourself buying another new one AND still works great.

Unscrew the fan ontop and try just placing a large fan ontop with some elastic bands or something, a copper HS should be ok still though obviously its not first rate or anything

OK, so I got a Gigabyte G-Power Pro which arrived today. A bugger to install, well for me it was, and I had to remove one of my case fans (at the back) because it's so big.

However, it's got my CPU core temp down to 32 degrees when idle, so I can't complain. I need to get someone in to put the fan control in, etc..

It's normal mode just now, with just the one wire plugged into the motheboard, and it is quite loud. Not complaining though.

Thanks!!!! ;)
