Before putting the CPU in our new computer we are making, it said before putting it in use some 'Heatsink paste'.
I posted somthing similar to this yesterday and someone told me that the heatsink paste I'm on about is actually called Thermal Compound or something?

Could someone please tell me if theres a difference between the 2?
Ans if theres anything I should be aware of when using it.

Thanks,

heat sink paste, thermal paste, thermal interface material and thermal compound are just different names for the same thing.

some coolers have thermal compound preapplied, especially coolers that come with CPUs.

if you need to apply your own thermal compound, jsut use a vey small amount, a pea sized blob should be more than enough.

Ok thank you, and would it be a 1 time thing?

Less is more with thermal paste in my opinion. A small rice shaped blob in the orientation of the cpu die is my favourite way to apply it. Tiny vertical rice shaped blob for my 3570K. Some coolers with direct heatpipe contact recommend you apply the TIM to the heatpipes though. Read the instructions. :D
