Heavy(ish) duty garage shelving/racking?

I'm in a similar boat & trying to decide if I should buy something, or just build some shelving myself.

I've got some racking, but the shelf (MDF) has bowed in the middle over the years & I'm not sure how much better others would be. Mine didn't have a central support beam, so maybe this would be resolved by those that do, but it seems to jump the price massively to get some with proper shelf support, at which point I wonder if it's worth the 4-5x the price of building it myself.

I'm probably looking for ~15m worth of shelving, arranged in an "E" shape, so the price per unit quickly adds to the total price!

Fibreboard ones start to bow quickly, even with a centre support. Replacing with at least 12mm ply should be factored into the cost IMO.

Yea, that's one option I've considered. I'm just not sure if it ends up being the worst of both worlds - Paying the premium for pre-built stuff, but still having to do a load of cutting/assembling anyway.

I pretty much decided if I'm buying ply/chipboard to replace the shelves, then I may as well just spend a little more time & build the frame too & save the money from buying a frame.

I'll let you know how I get on later --- I am assembling my Amazon special (£45 for 2 1.8x0.9x0.4 shelves). I wouldn't bother cutting the ply myself, I'd just buy a £25 sheet from B&Q and get them to cut it to size. Should be minimal effort for absolutely solid racking.

Looks like I'm a bit late for OP, but just to add in to the list of potentials; I've been super pleased with Rapid Racking having used them for both a personal and business use cases. They are very similar to BigDug....in fact I wouldn't be surprised if it's just the same stuff that both companies use and rebrand!

This stuff is horrible to use but once up and screwed to the wall/cable tied together, it is pretty hard to look past how good it is for the cost. £45 for both units there. Unfortunately my brain way-overestimated how much storage I'd end up with; so I've still got a tonne of junk to put away.

I bought these Yaheetech for the shed and was well aware that the MDF boards would curl, but will happily replace with something more hardcore later.
The shelves are strong enough for my needs with a half decent price as well.

Same one I got... Does the job but the boards do start growing a little mould, especially on the underside, after a while so I tend to give them a wipe down every now and then.

another update.

We ended up picking up the 430mm deep heavy duty unit from homebase today as it was now 30% off and not really a lot can go wrong with it so no real warranty concern.
We did however make sure we picked up the only undamaged box they had :p

So we've got the HB 600mm deep one for wood storage and very large tools, the 430mm one for general tools, and 3x of the bigdug blue units for light stuff.

We've ended up spending nearly 500 on storage in the last month
