What the PS3 is capable of? Supposedly only using 30% of its power currently so the futures looking bright

Whats this 30% figure being banded about these days? Naughty Dog have said the same thing today about the PS3 and Uncharted.....

As for Heavy Rain, looks excellent! :)

Its how it goes with consoles - the early PS2 games look poo compared with things like God of War. Gettin the PS3 to use the 6 cores with the gfx card is tricky. Obviously I'm no developer so know nothing, but if naughty dog think theres a lot more potential then that can only be a good thing - after all look what they did with uncharted!

I was gonna say, It's possibly true. As people get to grips with the hardware more and more of the PS3's capabilities will come into play. Same goes with development short cuts and firmware updates. Every goes towards a better future.

Maybe i just find it hard to believe that they could make the likes of Uncharted 60-70% better, mainly because it already looks and plays so good already :D

I think that statistic is based around the fact that the single powerpc core in the cell is equivalent to ~30% of the CPUs overall processing power. Games like Uncharted and Resistance have been stated as making very little use of the other smaller 'SPUs', even now the majority of games aren't making anywhere near full use of all of the SPUs in the cell (or so i've heard at least). It's worth keeping in mind SPUs are capable of processing different types of 'load', so for example in killzone a couple of them are dedicated to helping out the GPU which hopefully will yield impressive visual results.

[EDIT] I feel its worth stating that i think the PS3 will really do some impressive things in years to come. This isn't such a huge compliment though as i feel at present its potential is hugely wasted due to poor devkits and unfamiliar hardware resulting in poorly optimized coding of early (and a large portion of current) games.

I remember seeing this at e3 2006 - the small trailer (That was just a tech demo) was amazing! I am definatly looking forward to this, I loved Fahrenheit and hope this is just as good!
Does anyone know if it is definatly for release in 2008?

Well...

Oops sorry, my reply to this question has been delayed, i'll get back to you 'when its done'

(Too subtle? :p)

mmm as much as i hate all these figures being thrown around, i still hope that they are somewhat true.

that said, the close up of the face is pretty damn immense if its in game :o

They really spent a lot of time getting the eyes and main facial features correct. Unsurprising considering eye tracking experiments in humans find that humans focus mainly on the eyes of an individual when assessing emotion. Looks like they've got it near spot on.

This game looks incredible. Just hope it doesnt have the stupid ending that Fahrenheit did that ruined what could have been a brilliant murder mystery game.
