Hey guys, pretty new here, Ive been lurking for ages and I thought I'd post as I need some expert advice.

Im currently thinking about upgrading my rig, but I have a couple of questions to put to you guys.

1) Im going to purchase a 680i mobo, a 8800 gtx, conroe core cpu, will this be compatible with my ram?
cant really afford to spend any more at this time of year. My ram is 2 gig of Corsair model CM2X1024-5400C4. would this be compatible with that configuration?

2) Im an absolute idiot when it comes to psu's, looking to spend around 70 quid, which one will do the job, if you can direct link to a model too because
I really dont get all the 12v on the 30a rail mijiggy blt bmx and nasa volts etc lol.

thanks
Gun

Looks fine. The memory will run at 675MHz on stock, but should overclock if you push out its timings.

As for PSUs, I've heard good things about the Seasonic and Hyper brands.

I have heard many bad things about hyper,

IMO i would stick to seasonic, enermax and tagan for strong 12v rails and a sturdy reputation! :)

Seasonic S12 500W, OCZ ModStream 520W, FSP Sparkle 500W. :)

All kick arse. ;)

EDIT: Just like to point out that my recomendations were there way before Booners. :D

With the 8800 the lower limit is 500W with 600W being comfortable. I'd stretch to atleast a 550W. I have the Antec TruePower2 550W PSU that came with my antec titan case that is working perfectly without a fault. I'm not sure about the 30a on the 12V rail business either really so maybe you should listen to the people that know more about that on here then I do.

Get atleast a 550W PSU if you want decent stability though. They aren't that much more then £70.

hyper

i have used a few hyper models and have the modular offering seems very stable would recommend from my exsperiance although i belive the seasonic is the pic of the bunch at the moment, tagen were allways my old faves.

70 quid will get you a hiper type r 670w quad rail psu.

yea, I wonder why its so cheap? I'd stay clear of hiper, i've seen bad things too.

Seasonic/OSZ/Sparkle all good. But tbh £70 on a PSU is madness. The PSU is like breaks in a car, you don't skimp on it. Seasonic S-12 600W at £120. If you can't get that drop the 680i for a 975 or 965 board, just as good.
