Hello and Help :)

Thanks for helping a OcUK forum noob guy, I appreciate it, I posted the following in general but its maybe the wrong place I'll reiterate here

Well today I ordered my 8800 gtx, my 680i mobo, my core 2 duo e6600, and Im genuinely petrified.

I switched from nVidia to Ati about 6 years ago and Ive grown attatched and accustomed to my setup/controlcenter. I dont particularly know where to begin starting over with nVidia all these years later. Its fairly daunting. Ive clung onto my system for dear life over the last 18 months and its served me well.

Im going to use the hard drive Im using now, would you suggest keeping it as is and when I install my new hardware booting with windows cd and installing like that? these new gtx's which drivers are working? I know there aint many about. Also I keep seeing these amazing smoke/water vids from the 8800, can I download these and run them in realtime? if so how? lol Im sorry, a lot of questions I know. Infact you know what I want to do the most, run the Cellfactor demo from a while back and see how it copes without the ageia card, that'll be fun.

I feel like a terribly terrified kid.....at christmas.

lol terrified? I would be drooling all over that stuff!! I wish i could afford all that!

Well the best thing to do with new hardware is to format...I would advise this especially with the latest and greatest hardware so that you get the most out of it!

I get my X1950XTX 512mb friday ! goody! :)

lol booner, there will no doubt be festoons of drool once I do it, I just hate building my own, its like delicate surgery, anti-stat wristband, rubber gloves, standing on plastic (yes Im an obsessive compulsive freak) I may as well be doing brain surgery.

Im such a flippin messy git too! doesnt make sense, I havent formatted in 18 months and I would need xray vision to find my xp disc and license, oh god the hunt begins, I could always pinch one from work!

about those realtime demos for the 8800, where are they located? anyone know?

I have a 8800 GTx and 680i mob and I am using Enermax liberty 620w

Cannot fault it.Stable as a rock and silent too.

Same, what's making it silent? :)
Becase mine sure isn't. :(

Run all fans through a controller and it's still louder than when I had a DFI board.

Even had to take out a fan to fit more HDD's.

Edit: Well you do watercool :P?
But this man speaks the truth, stable as a rock if you avoid installing nvidia firewall.

Dude, what is up with your rig?

E6300 with DDR400 and an AGP 7600GT? :p

<break>

Excuse me? Why are you being rude to me?

Because you were rude to me? What did you mean "what's up with your rig?"

What exactly is wrong with it and why should you feel the need to comment on it? It works perfectly fine for me.

That was not being rude. I was simply questioning the irregularity of it...

No need to get your knickers in a twist. :o

I have an Asrock DUAL-VSTA motherboard that supports DDR1 RAM and an AGP gfx card as well as DDR2 and PCI-E which leaves me open for a nice slow upgrade while still getting conroe early on :)
