Hi this is my First Post
I' software developer but my hardware knowledge isn't that hot.
I have added graphics cards, new ram and new psu's before
So here goes..

I want to add 4GB ram to machine but It only allows 4GB, which is a pain in the butt especially considering that I have window 7 professional 64bit OS.
I know I should have looked at what I was getting. jeeez oh!

I use my machine for development (vs2010, Sql server etc) and the yearly sabbatical of three or fours months on EVE-online. I also use the computer to stream content to my XBox and other devices (this content is held on separate external hard drives).

Can you suggest a suitabe motherboard replacement that will allow me to be flexible going forward for the next few years.

Also how hard is it to replace the motherboard ?

Any suggestion on how I could Improve my current setup part from this.

I have this desktop:-
manufacturer Compaq-Presario
product VS163AA-ABU CQ5223UK
Processor:-
Name AMD Athlon II X4 620
Codename Propus
Specification AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 620 Processor
Package Socket AM3 (938)
Motherboard :-
vendor PEGATRON CORPORATION
model Narra6
revision 6.01
Ram: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz
Graphics Card :Sapphire Radeon HD 4670
PSU Replaced Stock PSU with jantech ATX 405w
Hard Drive 320GB

Any guides on how to do this

Great site

Heya, welcome to OCUK :)

Unfortunately my current AMD knowledge isn't fully up to spiff, but I can already say that if you want to run something more power intensive in that rig then you'll need to upgrade your PSU too as 400W is quite low for nowdays standards.

Basically you don't need much to get a more powerful system, as any single part upgrade, but swapping out one thing would mean adding almost one of everything new.

Also don't know how brand machines are nowdays, but when I worked with Dell's and Compaq's a few years back, they would throw themselves off the plank if you changed any major parts like mobo in the system.

I know this isn't exactly the advice you're looking for, but as everything in your current system looks a bit budget, I'd buy a whole new rig in your situation.
