Whats the difference between these 2 mobos

Asus Maximus III Formula TO Asus Maximus III Gene

?

Basically the Formula is out of stock and the GENE is in stock from where i am ordering from..

No i cant order from anywhere else.

Thanks a lot guys!

The Gene is a micro ATX board, while the Formula is a full ATX board.

The Gene has less PCI-E and PCI slots due to the reduced size.
The gene has less SATA ports
The gene has a less robust power regulation system.

As you are spending so much on a motherboard, have you considered going X58 (i'm assuming you are getting a s1156 i7)?

Yeah getting the i7 1156Socket.

Can you link me to it please mate, Also it has to fit a 5870 and dual channel memory

Thanks bud

No. Also, you can't link to competitors here so I suggest removing the link.

If you don't plan to overclock then the best option is gong for the s1156 i7 you were already planning to get. Also, the maximus and formula boards you are looking at are specifically designed for extreme overclocking, if you don't plan on overclock then I suggest looking for a cheaper motherboard like this, this or this, they will do the job fine.

However, overclocking is actually pretty simple - and getting an i7 920 to 3.6GHz is like childs play. With a bit of reading and a £30 cooler you can get 50% extra performance out of this CPU.

I have gone with the i7 as i would like to have a go with Overclocking!!

Can you link me to a good newbie guide for overclocking?

My CPU etc will arrive tommorow

Thanks for your help
