Hellraiser (Oct 2022 on Hulu)

I've seen the French in French first then about 3 times with dubbed English, I haven't seen the remake, does it still have the same name?
You've dodged a horror movie bullet, don't watch the remake - should you wish to punish yourself however, it came out in 2015 and is also called Martyrs.

Hellraiser is the only horror film that as made me wince since I saw The Exorcist as a young lad in the 70s, nothing came close until that.
An honourable mention also goes to Martyrs.

Agree, Hellraiser is a true classic, only watched it once 30 years ago and it still sticks.

The Exorcist I can watch over and over and I would say, my favourite horror.

Hellraiser creeped me out, the chatterer ugh, and that bloody box. Didn't realise it had gone down the Nightmare on Elm Street umpteen sequels!

Vaguely heard of the Martyrs and will watch one day, but I'll regret like the film Funny Games which makes me rage.

I think Hellraiser is forever ruined to me because it was before my time and i only watched one of the sequels which was just horrible. The premise is something i would normally enjoy though.

Is this a remake / origin type story?

HR 1 and 2 were amazing for its time. As a young(ish) kid they were part of my horror classics. They also got me started with reading Clive Barker books which i read over and over :)

Imajica
The Great and Secret Show
Weaveworld
Cabal
The Thief of Always
The Books of Blood

No idea if they stand the test of time, but these were worlds i got lost in for hours at at time.

Yep it was utter trash. The original couple of films were dirty and grimy which suited the story. There was a sinister knowledge as be careful in what you wish for, in the case of frank and Julia, sexual pleasures they could not imagine. This reboot really had none of that, being fair the guy in the house wanting sensation he had never experienced but it was on the whole terribly written and the acting was awful. There was more of a campiness with pinhead rather than menace of a pure evil demon. The cenobites were also pretty unimaginative in their design as well.

Watched it last night, I enjoyed it and it scratched my Hellraiser itch but some of the suits looked rubbery on screen rather than more flesh like.

Actually thought it was ok.
But then again, I saw all 10 of the previous ones so the production value and visuals were enough to give it a few extra marks in my book.
Absolutely terrible main character you want to end up wrapped in barbed wire, and the new cenobites while 'ok' do seem a little less scary (Pinhead not scary or menacing at all)
All in all, a solid 6.5/10 and you could probably do a lot worse of an evening :D

I thought it was OK - not a patch on the first 2 obviously but watchable, unlike the endless sequels. Could have used a little more lore though - a bit more exposition would have helped flesh things out a bit (pun intended).
